Less documented than other parts of the local heritage, factory work has nevertheless marked the history of the city. There Geneva Library gives the floor to the protagonists who lived through this period for an evening on September 19 at the Bastions.
In the 1960sone could read almost daily in the Geneva press job advertisements for theGardy factory, specializing in the production of electrical equipment. At that time, the company employed up to 800 people and was a privileged player in economic life.
Nowadays, this name is no longer part of the local vocabulary but still marks those who lived through this era, proof of this is the many testimonials received by the Library of Geneva since the beginning of thephoto hanging at the Bastions (visible until October 26).
THE imposing buildings occupied by the factory at La Jonction are still present in the daily lives of Genevans and today house thefactory kugler or CFPT apprentices.
THE next september 19, the history of this factory will be told to you from the inside by former employees of the company who will comment on the photos kept by the Geneva Library. Archivists and photography historians will put the images into perspective.
